Equality… important right? Well, Switzerland has gotten one step closer to that on the 26th of September 2021. Same Sex marriage is FINALLY legal here in Switzerland. An absolute big and important step for the Queer Community here in Switzerland and, also all over the world. And with this: a new era for the Queer Community in Switzerland has finally started!
Queer Weddings are finally LEGAL
What does that mean for us Wedding Vendors? Nothing major changes. We will continue to accompany YOU on your big day. We are here for your love and your love only. Whether this is includes signing a legal contract or not. BUT for a few people for the LGBTQ+ Community that always wanted the real and legal marriage, a lot has changed. They can finally get married to each other as equals and make it official. Not just for them but also for the government (big thing you know – especially when there’s also a plan called “wanting to have kids” involved).
This milestone means so much more than just another reason for the Swiss Wedding Industry to get involved but this does now officially involve us Wedding Vendors and we are here to make this the most incredible, comfortable and inclusive experience.

The Swiss Queer Wedding Association
Felix Fay from Faytastic Wedding and Michael Zangger from PassionUp Weddings specialize in LGBTQ+ Weddings. In their regular service provider analysis, they are always quite undecided whether the respective wedding vendor is open and supportive of Queer Weddings. Felix already encountered some negative experience in that exact area. For instance: a wedding vendor simply hung up on him as soon as Felix communicated that this was a LGBTQ+ wedding. They want to prevent such disappointing – and frankly also very disrespectful – experiences in the future. That is the reason why they’ve decided to found the Swiss Queer Wedding Association.
They are very dedicated providing LGBTQ+ couples with a positive, supportive experience while planning their wedding. They do that by building a Swiss platform of wedding professionals who are sensitive, trained and ready to support all couples.
SQWA MISSION
Their goal is quite clear that all wedding couples are treated equally. There is no difference or judgement for all possible couple constellations. All our wonderful professions in the Swiss Wedding Industry are about the people and LOVE. Felix and Michi from SQWA are very aware of the fact that this goal is still quite far to reach. Nevertheless, they are very sure that this is the only way we can all grow together. And who knows, maybe one day this will finally just be considered as normal.

The Kick-Off Event
As every new company and association, to be successful there needs to be a big bang that says: HERE WE ARE. Felix and Michi have delivered that on their Big Kick-Off Event at the Dolder Grand Hotel end of May 2022.
Nearly 100 Swiss Wedding Vendors gathered for the Kick-Off of the Swiss Queer Wedding Association. Next to presenting the new founded association, there were also incredible guest vendors that have contributed differently to the whole evening:
Their offer for the Wedding Vendors
Their range of offers include these three main ones:
Education
They regurarly organize panel discussion for their members as training is very important to them. They will concentrate on the topics of the current needs such as gender-fair communication, gender in general, trans etc. As these topics already exist, a lot of vendors still hesitate to apply and include these into their business because they are afraid and unsure of doing it correctly. SQWA wants to get to the bottom of these struggles with specialists from the relevant areas and create clarity for everyone.
SQWA Community
Organize events where everyone can exchange information and benefit from the SQWA network. These events take place at different locations in Switzerland. In order to stay up to date and create together from time to time, an annual styled shoot will also be incorperated. Achieving different goals together is very important to them.
SWQA Label
With the Swiss Queer Wedding Association they present all their members to any external stakeholders. On the on hand this includes any communicated on thier social media and theit website. Additionally, all SQWA members can use the SQWA label on their social media platforms and their websites to make a statement to the whole world.
Admission procedure
As every dedicated and professional association there is an admission procedure in order. They have delevoped one starting with a questionnaire. This questionnaire also includes some of the certain rules that come with using the SQWA label. One example of one of these rules is Inclusive Language such as using “Wedding Couple” instead of “Bridal Couple” or “Partner” or “Significant Other” instead of “Bride and Groom”.
The total integrity of all LGBTQ+ couples in Switzerland. Understanding that all lovers are perceived as human beings. Acceptance as everyone expects from society. They pursue this ambitious goal with enthusiasm and a lot of heart!
SQWA Vision
After their very well planned presentation, we all were able to mingle and network with each other and enjoy a wonderful cocktail hour catered by their host The Dolder Grand Hotel .
